The 1896 Morgan dollar from the Philadelphia Mint is a common but popular coin with a mintage of nearly 10 million. While widely available in lower grades, its value increases significantly in pristine, uncirculated condition.

The 1896 Philadelphia Morgan dollar does not have a mintmark. If a coin dated 1896 has a mintmark (like "O" for New Orleans or "S" for San Francisco), it was struck at a different mint and has a distinct value. The mintmark location is on the reverse, below the eagle and above the "D" and "O" of "DOLLAR"

These coins are generally well-struck. However, the luster can vary, sometimes appearing dull or greasy rather than frosty.
