After the U.S. and Filipino forces dumped millions of pesos worth of silver coins into Manila Bay to prevent them from falling into Japanese hands, the Japanese forced American POW divers to attempt salvage. The American divers secretly sabotaged the operation, and much of the silver was later recovered by the U.S. Navy and the Philippine government.
